[10] In 1621 the town was besieged by the Bavarians led by Tilly and following enormous bombardment the city was forced to surrender and the Saxons had to go away. The city was then punished for disobedience by in depth repressive actions. This case recurred yet again in 1631 once the burghers authorized the Saxons to enter and conquered the town.
